Bangladesh Launches Nationwide 'Prime Minister’s Gold Cup' Youth Sports Initiative
Bangladesh is launching the 'Prime Minister’s Gold Cup', a massive sports tournament involving over 50,000 educational institutions. The initiative aims to promote physical development and sports participation among students from classes six to twelve. Participation is mandatory for male students and optional for female students. The government plans a FIFA-style opening ceremony and has decentralized activities to focus on rural regions. Tournament Vision and Governance The tournament seeks to become a national festival rather than just a competition, with the Prime Minister personally selecting the name and scheduled to attend both the opening and final matches. A high-level committee including ministers and local representatives has been established to ensure nationwide coordination and promotion. The project builds upon previous successful programs that engaged millions of students at the primary and secondary levels. Key Participants Mahdi Amin, Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Office, announced the details. Participating institutions include schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical or vocational institutes. Cabinet officials involved in the organizing committee include the Ministers of Education, Information, and Disaster Management, among others.
