NASA Unveils New Deep Space Station 23 Antenna

• NASA leadership gathered on August 25, 2026, at the Goldstone complex near Barstow, California, to celebrate the completion of the new Deep Space Station 23 (DSS-23) antenna.
• The facility is part of the ongoing DSN Aperture Enhancement Project, initiated in 2009 to modernize and expand the network.

Technical Enhancements

• The project aims to add six 34-meter (114-foot) multifrequency beam-waveguide antennas to the existing network.
• These versatile dishes enable the Deep Space Network to track, command, and receive scientific data from distant spacecraft across multiple radio frequencies.

Network Management

• The Deep Space Network is managed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a division of Caltech, on behalf of the Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) program at NASA Headquarters.
