Katakrak Expands Community Infrastructure in Iruñea
El Salto
- The Katakrak collective in Iruñea has launched a funding campaign for 'Fraktal', a project to upgrade its facilities and expand its militant community infrastructure.
- The initiative aims to provide systemic solutions to housing and migration issues through self-management, bypassing institutional dependency.
Community Housing and Support
- Fraktal will establish a permanent community shelter with 24 beds, a kitchen, and bathrooms at Calle Mayor 54.
- This builds on the work of the 'Derecho a Techo' collective, which previously provided emergency housing and administrative support to over 100 migrants navigating bureaucratic barriers.
Anti-Border Activism
- The site will serve as the base for the 'Agencia Europea Antifronteras' (European Anti-Border Agency), a coalition monitoring human rights violations and challenging the EU's migration and asylum policies.
- The agency coordinates with groups like No Name Kitchen and L’Aurora Support, including field interventions in Ceuta.
- The Katakrak Center for Studies will offer a seminar this autumn titled 'The sea does not kill,' focusing on border technology, repression, and resistance strategies.
Additional Infrastructure
- Expansion of event space: A new secondary hall for 80 people will be added to the existing 160-capacity venue.
- Cicloficina: A popular workshop space will be integrated to promote cycling as an ecological and social alternative in urban mobility.
